Sunny Acres RV Park, Las Cruces, New Mexico

We stayed at the Sunny Acres RV Park in Las Cruces, New Mexico one night as the base for exploring the White Sands National Monument. The RV Park by itself was quite quiet, however there are train tracks nearby. There were trains going through the night and they make really loud noises that did wake us up several times.

Justin's Diamond J RV Park in Tucson, Arizona

We stayed at Justin's Diamond J RV park for one night on Feb 19, 2017 to explore the nearby Saguaro National Park . This park seems to be catered towards longer term stay as it has lots of activities, for example mini-golf, bocce ball and walking trails that start right off the RV park. The sites were reasonably large, though there wasn't much vegetation to separate the sites. We were at site 39 and our 24 foot trailer and truck fit fine. When we stayed here in February the park was packed, but it was still quiet at night.

Saguaro National Park

Saguaro National Park in Arizona near Tuscon consists of two separate districts on separate sides of Tuscon. We had an afternoon to visit the west side, and a morning to visit the east side in February 2017. We started with Sonora Arizona Desert Museum , which is located right outside the west side of the Saguaro National Park. The museum is not part of the national park, but I highly recommend to stop by the there.

Coyote Howls WEST RV Park in Why, Arizona

We stayed at the CoyoteHowls WEST RV park for one night on February 18, 2017. We were on our way from Phoenix to Tucson and chose this RV park for its proximity to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument . We arrived at the campground at 1pm and the camp host was helpful and friendly in setting us up with a site.

Driving through Joshua Tree National Park

By now we have visited the Joshua Tree National Park twice. The first time was in November 2015 on our way back a Grand Canyon tour and the second time was February 2017 on our way to Phoenix for an RV road trip through Arizona and New Mexico. Joshua Tree National Park is big and it takes time to drive through it, but even if you only have a half day to spare, it is totally worth it to drive through and stop by to experience the surreal desert landscape of rocks, cacti, and Joshua Trees (which are actually plants, not trees).

Prewitt Ridge Campground, Big Sur

We hadn't planned on going to Big Sur. Originally the plan was Kings Canyon & Sequoia, but due to the fires, that seemed unwise. Then we looked at Pinnacles National Park, but the only campground there was full. So we looked at Big Sur - and I'm so pleased we did! Whilst researching campgrounds in the area, I stumbled upon Wis Siler's blog post about Prewitt Ridge Campground: How To Find The Most Beautiful Car Camping Spot In The World - and he's not lying!

Skyline Trail, Mount Rainier National Park

I've been to Bellevue, WA many times - almost always on business trips. From our office we have beautiful views across to Mount Rainier, but I have never been there before. This time, at the suggestion of a colleague, I had flown up on Saturday (rather than Sunday evening or early Monday morning as I would otherwise have done) so that we could go for a hike around Mount Rainier on Sunday. We would drive up to Paradise and hike the Skyline Trail from there.
